2011 Budget Released by Obama

President Obama today made public his 2011 budget.  While he has stated that reining in out of control spending is important to his administration, the new budget would increase the federal deficit to $1.56 trillion, a record high.  Obama said that, while the budget does result in trillion dollar deficits for the next three years, it includes many job creation efforts to help Americans find employment again.

Obama to Give State of the Union Speech Tonight

On Wednesday night, President Obama will make his first State of the Union speech. Facing unfavorable job approval ratings and heavy criticism, the President will aim to retool his message to voters. While Obama was elected largely due to public unhappiness with the economy, he’s now the one facing the barrage of attacks. High unemployment has continued to stress the American people and Obama will focus heavily on job creation in the speech.

Supreme Court Rules on Campaign Spending

In a major ruling today, the Supreme Court decided that corporations and unions are free to spend as much as they like on political campaigns. The court was split 5-4 along conservative and liberal lines. The ruling changes a long trend of limiting the amount of influence that corporations and labor unions can have on politics.

Obama’s TSA Nominee Backs Out

Erroll Southers will not head the Transportation Security Administration because he withdrew his name from contention today. He stated that his decision to pull out was because his nomination had been turned into a political agenda. The move was a big blow to President Obama in what is proving to be a difficult week for the administration.

Obama Pushing Healthcare Legislation Hard
