Mega Aftershock Strikes Haiti

As if Haiti needed more bad luck, a 6.1 magnitude aftershock rattled the already destroyed nation on Wednesday. People went screaming and running for open ground, terrified of more destruction. Haiti’s Prime Minister said he was going to send a team to Petit-Grove, where the epicenter of the aftershock occurred, to check for damage and injured persons.

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Wyclef Jean has been working hard to help his countrymen. He was born in Haiti and runs a charitable organization dedicated to making a difference in the poverty stricken nation. The organization has been under scrutiny as of late. Wyclef defended it while calling for Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Price, to be evacuated.

The crisis response to the disastrous earthquake in Haiti has been different from ever before. With the help of many volunteers experienced in internet technology, new tools and services have been developed to aid the effort. They’ve built new software to help track missing people, map the disaster zone and facilitate urgent cell phone text messaging. Using the systems are many organizations involved in helping Haiti such as the International Red Cross and the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency.
US Aid in Haiti Criticized

French Minister Alain Joyandet criticized the United States’ role in helping Haiti, saying that efforts should be to help Haiti, not occupy it. He made the statements in response to U.S. forces turning back an aid plane from France. The plane was carrying a field hospital and landed safely the next day. Joyandet called for the United Nations to investigate the prevailing role that the United States has had in helping Haiti after the devastating earthquake.
